HeartSaver CPR & AED

The HeartSaver CPR & AED course by Medicore Medical Services covers a range of topics to do with cardiac and respiratory emergencies. It will also teach you how to use an AED, when it should be used and who should use it.

This course focuses heavily on practical skills and student participation. This video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult, child & infant CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking.

This course teaches skills with the American Heart Associations research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.

By the end of the course the students will have completed numerous cycles of CPR while using a defibrillator, this is all designed to make the student more comfortable and confident, if ever asked to carry out the skills for real.

HeartSaver CPR & AED Course

Who's it for

The course is for people who want to learn CPR and AED use but who are not expected to use it regularly. This could include non-healthcare personnel, sports coaches, teachers and parents as a very small example.

This course is also suitable for non-acute healthcare staff such as healthcare assistants, administrative staff, medical secretaries and dental nurses.

Requirements

Students should be physically fit enough to carry out chest compression on a manikin while kneeling. It is a requirement that students demonstrate effective compressions and ventilations during the class.

Student should also have a level of English language proficiency that will allow them to interact with the instructor and be led by the video. 

Method of Delivery

The course is facilitated by an instructor from Medicore Medical Services who will use the AHA/IHF video to guide you through the course.

The course is delivered through English.

There is also a Blended Learning option available for this course.

Renewal

In order to maintain you qualification after your two-year certification period you will be required to undertake the course again. There is no refresher training for people who currently have an in-date certificate.

Course Description

Our Heartsaver CPR & AED courses are structured to provide comprehensive, hands-on learning experiences.

Key components include:

CPR Training: Learn the principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including delivering a two-minute cycle of compressions and breaths using the AHA/IHF’s proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique.

AED Use: Understand when and how to safely and effectively use an automated external defibrillator in emergency situations.

Choking Assistance: Gain the skills to assist adults, children, and infants who are choking.

Tailored Modules: Covering essential topics such as adult and child CPR, infant CPR, and defibrillation, these modules ensure all participants receive thorough and relevant training.

With a focus on practical application, students will have numerous opportunities to practice cycles of CPR while using a defibrillator, making them more confident and prepared for real-life emergencies.

Certification for Heartsaver CPR: Participants will receive an AHA/IHF internationally recognised digital certificate upon successful completion, valid for two years.

Modules

Duration

The course is between 2 - 4 hours long depending on the modules undertaken and the number of students on the course.

Assessment

As students progress through the course they will be continually assessed by the instructor. Towards the end of the course the students will be presented with a complete CPR & AED scenario to which they must respond.

Students must successfully complete all necessary steps to pass the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course students will be issued with an Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association recognised digital certificate.

This cert will be valid for 2 years.
