The NAEMT Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support course is an internationally recognised programme designed to improve trauma care and reduce mortality in pre-hospital environments.
Developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, PHTLS is regarded as a global standard in pre-hospital trauma education. The programme equips emergency care professionals with critical thinking skills and evidence-based techniques to assess and manage trauma patients effectively.

Requirements
- Participants must be physically able to perform practical skills, including chest compressions and airway management.
- Students must demonstrate effective practical skills during the course.
- Participants should have sufficient English language proficiency to engage fully with instruction and assessment.

The course is delivered in English by certified instructors and includes:

Duration
The standard provider course is delivered over two days, totalling 16 classroom hours.
Where required, the programme may be structured over successive weekends or adjusted scheduling formats while maintaining the minimum required instructional hours.
Assessment
Participants are assessed through:
- Ongoing instructor evaluation during skills stations
- Scenario-based performance assessments
- Written examination
Successful completion requires demonstration of both theoretical understanding and practical competence.
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants receive:
- An internationally recognised PHTLS provider certificate valid for four years
- A PHTLS provider wallet card
Course fee: €250 per person, including the official PHTLS manual and access to the online learning platform.
Renewal
A one-day, eight-hour renewal course is available for participants who have successfully completed the two-day provider course within the previous four years.
A current PHTLS provider certificate or wallet card must be presented at registration. On successful completion of the renewal course, certification is extended for a further four years.
