The Heartsaver AED and PHECC CFR Community Instructor course is designed for individuals who wish to become certified instructors in CPR, AED and Cardiac First Response Community programmes.

Entry Requirements

  • A valid Heartsaver AED provider certificate issued within the previous 12 months
  • Demonstrated high-level CPR and AED skill competence
  • Physical ability to perform multiple cycles of CPR during the two-day programme
  • Access to a computer with internet access for required online components
  • Adequate English language proficiency to deliver instruction and assessment

Method of Delivery

The course is delivered in English and includes:

The face-to-face portion of the programme is delivered over two days.


Monitoring and Qualification Process

Upon completion of the initial two-day programme, participants are designated as Instructor Candidates.

To achieve full instructor status, candidates must complete a three-step monitoring process:

  1. Observe a qualified instructor delivering a course
  2. Assist with course delivery under supervision
  3. Deliver a full course in the presence of an Irish Heart Foundation faculty member

Successful completion of all monitoring requirements is necessary for full certification.


Renewal

Instructor certification is valid for two years.

To maintain qualification, instructors must:

  • Deliver a minimum of four courses within the two-year certification period
  • Complete the required monitoring or update process as specified by the awarding bodies

Failure to meet activity requirements may affect instructor status.


Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and monitoring process, participants receive:

  • An Irish Heart Foundation and American Heart Association instructor certificate
  • A PHECC CFR Community Instructor certificate

Certification is valid for two years and is internationally recognised.
