Emergency First Response Course
An Emergency First Response course (EFR) is suitable for a person trained in Cardiac First Response, it expands the knowledge and skills of basic first aid, and teaches the assessment and management of patients in a pre‐hospital environment.
An Emergency First Responder may be part of the emergency medical services, a healthcare practitioner or a member of the public.
This training is ideal for anyone looking to respond effectively to medical and trauma emergencies in a variety of settings, whether as part of an emergency team or independently.
What the EFR Course Includes
The aim of the course is to equip the student with the relevant knowledge and skills to deliver a range of life saving techniques in an emergency situation.
Objectives
1. Recognise and assess common life‐threatening and common serious medical conditions in a pre‐hospital environment.
2. React to a pre‐hospital emergency utilising appropriate EFR standard of care according to PHECC CPGs.
3. Respond in an effective, safe and appropriate manner to a medical emergency and trauma in a pre‐hospital environment utilising the EFR skill set.
4. Record and report their actions and interventions appropriately during management and at handover to emergency medical services.
5. Retain a professional manner and approach in the performance of their duties as an EFR.
Course Details
Who's it for
The EFR course is suited for those looking to expand on the knowledge and skills of other courses such as First Aid Response.
The EFR course offers a comprehensive overview and grounding of what's expected from emergency medical personnel.
It may also be an advantage to anyone wishing to progress their training at a further stage to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or above.
It is a pre-requisite to have an in date CFR or FAR certificate.
Renewal
In order to maintain your qualification after your three-year certification period you will be required to undertake a two day recertification course.
Recertification should take place before your current certificate expires.
In order to maintain their EFR certification, students should independently maintain their CFR certification.
Course Description
The course is facilitated by an instructor who will use a variety of techniques such as videos, PowerPoints, demonstrations, practical skill sessions and group discussions amongst others, to guide you through the course.
The course is delivered through English.
The course is 5 Days (30 hours + break times) excluding the Cardiac First Response section. The public course dates are below. Private courses can be delivered over a number of evenings, weekdays or weekends as necessary (prices vary, contact us for further information). Regardless of course breakdown the minimum duration will be observed.

Assessment
Participants will be assessed as they progress through the course and will complete practical skills demonstrations, scenario-based evaluations, and a multiple-choice exam (MCQ) at the end of the course. Pass rate is 80%
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants receive a joint PHECC/Medicore Medical Services Emergency First Response certificate, valid for three years.
